By far the largest market for wax emulsions is for inks, coatings, paints and lacquers, where the following properties are achieved:
- Scratch resistance
- Rub & abrasion resistance
- Gloss & matting
- Anti-blocking
- Hydrophobicity
Nearly all types of wax emulsions are found here but the majority are HDPE wax emulsions since these are the hardest and offer the best temperature resistance. Blends of HDPE with paraffin are found where improved hydrophobicity is desired. Carnauba wax emulsions are often preferred in systems that come into contact with foodstuff (direct or indirect).
